Using Mozy to Restore Data from the Web

September 17th, 2009

One of the easiest ways to use Mozy to restore your lost data is through the web restore feature. The first thing you’re going to do is go the the Mozy login page and sign in. Once signed in you need to click the My Computers link and on the next page click the Restore Files page. Once here you’ll want to select the File System tab and choose all the files you want to restore.

When finished click Continue in the lower right hand corner. You’ll now have to choose one of two delivery methods:

  1. Web Restore – Choose this option and Mozy will email you a link to download your files. If you selected a lot of files this may take a couple days, but remember that the link will only work for 7 days.
  2. DVD Restore – Mozy will mail you a DVD containing your files. However, there is a processing and handling fee for this option.

Once you have your files (either via the emailed link or DVD) you just save them to the desired location on your computer. Congratulations you should now be ready to rock and roll again.

PS If you still have problems try Mozy’s support documents here or hit them up on Twitter using the handle @Mozy.

Mozy Restore from DVD

September 2nd, 2009

To start off you’ll need the DVD which contains the directory structure of what has been backed up on the Mozy servers. This directory structure will match your hard drive’s. So here is the step-by-step:

  1. Insert the DVD into your DVD drive
  2. Open the DVD
  3. Select the file(s) you want to restore (hold the Ctrl button to select multiple files)
  4. Right-click and Copy files
  5. Go to the location where you want to restore the files, right-click and Paste files

Keep in mind that you will probably be hopping back and forth between the DVD and your hard drive quite a few times to restore the data to the proper locations. Also, if the file still exists you’ll be asked if you want to replace it. Make sure you mean it because this is irreversible. Let me know how it goes in the comments and include any tips that helped you out.
